Area Info

A couple of frequently asked questions:

Where is Puerto Aventuras?

Puerto Aventuras is located centrally between the hopping chic town of Playa Del Carmen and the eco beach town of Tulum where one of the famous Mayan ruins is located.  Puerto Aventuras is one hour south of Cancun International Airport.

What is Puerto Aventuras like?

Puerto Aventuras is a gated town with a mixed population of tourists and local residents of all ages and nationalities.  The village is complete with a grocery store, specialty markets, boutique shops, restaurants, a wonderful school, golf course, tennis courts, skate park, breathtaking sandy beaches, coral reef lined shore and the only marina south of Cancun.

Is the area safe?

Yes, the town has a gated entry and is security patroled 24/7.  This town is a luxury community with friendly families, smiling workers and happy tourists alike.  The roads are all paved and have large sidewalks.  Here you will find people walking, biking, riding golf carts and cars.

On a side note, the media broadcasts Mexico as being extremely dangerous. What they forget to mention is that Mexico is a huge country and the episodes that are happening are located near the border towns.  By car it would take you close two days to arrive there, so I am sure you will not come across any problems.

Should we bring cash or travelers checks to Mexico?

I recommend traveling with a little cash and using an ATM to retrieve cash in pesos at the best rate possible. There are several ATMs in Puerto Aventuras.  Most of the restaurants may advertise that they take credit card but please do not count on this.  There are many times the credit card machines are out of service.  The ATM next to the Cedam Museum is the best ATM (low fees and good exchange rates) to use in all of Puerto Aventuras.
